Buchanan Park Greenhouse Dome

Our Goal - Global Children’s Gardens (GCG), seeks approval in the Buchanan Park Master Plan to build a 33 foot community geodesic dome greenhouse with surrounding outdoor gardens. The dome will be managed by the committee, "Mountain Community Gardens (MCG)," which contains both GCG Board Members and interested community members. 

The greenhouse would serve as a venue for a variety of community based programs including:

• Environmental education and natural resource management programs for schools, home school groups, seniors, families and individuals.
• Demonstration gardens featuring high altitude, low water use gardens.
• Opportunities for community members to learn natural gardening techniques.
• Provide a site for horticultural therapy programs.
• Provide a site for intergenerational learning.
• Provide a site for court mandated and other community service learning programs.
• Be a model for sustainability and productivity of organic vegetables, herbs and flowers.

Community Meeting - We are asking for community involvement and support. Please join us at our first community meeting on May 14th, 2009 at the North Evergreen Fire Station auditorium at 6:30 p.m. This meeting will serve to introduce local residents to GCG’s proposal to the Evergreen Park and Recreation District Board and to acquire community insight.  Light Refreshments will be served.
